Meet Kwenza
Kwenza is a 6-year-old boy with an incredibly positive attitude. Born with clubfoot, he has never had the chance to stand or walk. We met Kwenza’s mother while working in the Swayimane area with Stembiso, and all Kwenza wanted was to be able to go outside and play with his classmates.
To help make this possible, we teamed up with the Run Nation running crew in Hilton to host an event. The goal was to get 100 people to participate in a trail run to raise awareness for Kwenza—all we asked for was a signature of support. That day, the Rejuvenate team was invited to join the entire Cordwalles school in running their cross-country loop, and we received over 200 signatures. By the end of the day, more than 400 people had come together to run in support of Kwenza and witness him receive his new wheelchair. We raised over R10,000 and gathered over 600 signatures, including those from the Cordwalles boys.
It was amazing to see how many people were moved by Kwenza’s story and eager to help. Kwenza now comfortably uses his new 4×4 wheelchair, which allows him to play outside with his peers. He has also undergone surgery on his feet in an effort to correct his condition.
