Meet Umbuso Ndlovu

Umbuso Ndlovu is a 32-year-old man who has faced both mental and physical challenges since birth. Sadly, despite his lifelong struggles, Umbuso has never received a proper diagnosis or medical treatment for his condition. His life has been shaped by these challenges, yet his family, particularly his devoted sister, continues to provide him with the care and support he needs.

Umbuso is unable to walk or speak, but he has developed a unique way of communicating with his sister using a language of his own. This special bond between them has allowed them to overcome many obstacles together. However, one of the most difficult tasks for his sister has been physically carrying Umbuso, who weighs around 55 kilograms, whenever he needs to travel to the clinic or other essential places. The nearest taxi pick-up point is 500 meters away, and every time Umbuso gets sick or needs to attend an appointment, his sister has had to make this exhausting journey on foot while carrying him.

Recognizing the tremendous strain this placed on his sister and the limitations it imposed on Umbuso’s life, we were able to provide him with a brand-new 4×4 wheelchair. This specialized wheelchair has already made a significant difference in their daily lives. Now, Umbuso can sit comfortably throughout the day, and his sister can easily wheel him to the taxi pick-up point, to the toilet, or even to church, without the physical burden of carrying him.

This new mobility has not only improved Umbuso’s quality of life but has also given his sister a much-needed break from the physically demanding care she had been providing. With the 4×4 wheelchair, they can now enjoy a level of freedom and ease that was previously unimaginable, allowing Umbuso to be more connected to his community and the world around him.

We are deeply moved by Umbuso’s story and the dedication of his sister, and we are grateful to have been able to assist them. This small but impactful gesture has brought new hope to their lives, and we are thrilled to see Umbuso benefiting from the power of mobility.
