Meet the Mthethwa Family

Magdalena, a 70-year-old grandmother, suffered two strokes over a decade ago. Before the strokes, she was a force of nature—walking up and down mountains to fetch water from the river for her family, tending to the household, and providing food. Magdalena’s resilience shines through in her joyful spirit, and her smile is one we’ll never forget.

Nqubeko, her 21-year-old granddaughter, has Cerebral Palsy and is entirely dependent on her mother and grandmother for care. Every time we visit, Nqubeko’s infectious laughter and smile inspire us to push harder to provide the mobility they both desperately need.

The challenges they face are immense. Their journey to the nearest taxi or bus stop is a grueling 1-kilometer trek up a treacherous, unstable road. Both Magdalena and Nqubeko must be carried for this trip, a process that takes half a day just to reach the pickup point.
We are incredibly happy to have provided both Magdalena and Nqubeko with the mobility they needed on the same day. This has transformed their daily lives, offering newfound freedom and ease. We look forward to many happy days ahead for the Mthethwa family, now able to navigate their world with greater independence and joy.
